overcoming overwhelm in busy periods

Overwhelm can feel like a heavy cloud that makes everything seem harder than it is. When life gets busy, it’s so easy for anxiety to creep in, leaving you feeling stuck, scattered, or simply exhausted. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and there are gentle ways to move through it.

First, take a deep breath, literally. When life feels chaotic, your breath is your anchor. A slow, intentional inhale followed by an even slower exhale tells your body it’s safe, even if your mind is racing. Just a few moments like this can create a pause in the storm.

Next, give yourself permission to prioritise. You don’t need to do everything all at once, and not everything is urgent. Ask yourself: What truly needs my attention right now? Focus on one small thing at a time and trust that it’s enough.

It’s also okay to ask for support. Whether that’s sharing your load with a loved one, saying no to an extra responsibility, having a session with a counsellor or coach or simply venting to someone you trust, you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.

And as a loving reminder, your body needs you. A sip of water, a short walk outside, or even five minutes of stillness is magic for easing internal pressure. These small acts of care can be the reset button you need.

Busy seasons don’t last forever, but your wellbeing is always worth protecting. You’re doing the best you can, and that is more than enough. Be kind to yourself, give yourself grace, and know that it’s okay to slow down even when life speeds up.
