What state of wellbeing and mental health are you in?

Newcastle Australian Holistic Counsellor & Wellbeing Coach

There are 4 states of wellbeing and mental health. Thriving, surviving, struggling or in crisis. The following slides will give some examples and indications as to where you may sit, but this is just a general guide.

Thriving:

  • All areas of your life feels aligned and are flowing really well

  • Your life has purpose and meaning

  • You wake up with a spring in your step because you had a great night’s sleep

  • You’re excited about your day ahead

  • You nourish your body with water and nutritious foods

  • You are calm and patient

  • You move your body regularly

  • You handle challenges with little stress

Surviving:

  • Things are okay, but there is room for improvement

  • You know that deep down, something has to change

  • You aren’t necessarily sick or unhappy, but you aren’t happy or healthy either

  • You have some great days with nourishing your body with water and healthy foods, but just as often have days where you don’t care as much

  • You get through your day relatively okay but if something goes wrong, everything falls down

  • You get everything done in life that needs to be done but are most likely not getting all of the things they want either

  • You’re doing okay, but definitely not the best

Struggling:

  • You are most likely ‘done’ with life

  • You’re lacking something, or maybe everything in terms of mind, body and soul

  • You wake up tired

  • You don’t care about what you eat, drink or consume

  • You’re stressed, overwhelmed, overstimulated

  • You feel unsupported and alone

  • Everything feels hard

  • You may wonder if life is supposed to be like this (because surely not?)

In crisis:

  • You feel lost, numb, out of control

  • You don’t nourish your mind, body or soul on any level

  • You struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep

  • You may have physical symptoms such as pains or unexpected weight loss or gain

  • You are easily, or maybe even always, stressed, overwhelmed, angry, annoyed or agitated

  • You withdraw yourself from people, opportunities and experiences

  • You may have dependences or addictions to substances, food, sex, work or any other numbing activities

  • You have excessive negative self-talk

  • You may have intrusive thoughts

  • You may be self-harming or having suicidal thoughts
