Not speaking up to “keep the peace” can be a trauma response.

Mindfulness, Mind, Body, Soul Wellness & Healing | Counsellor & Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach in Newcastle Australia

Not speaking up to “keep the peace” can be a trauma response.

Staying silent and choosing not to speak up can be a trauma response if you feel that it’s the ‘safer’ option for you. This is likely to come up for you if you as a child, your opinion wasn’t allowed to be shared or you were often told to be quiet and ‘not worry’ if somebody was treating you poorly.

Whenever you choose to stay silent to avoid conflict can be a level of disrespect to yourself because what about your boundaries? What about what you want, think or feel? Why doesn’t your opinion matter? Why aren’t you important in the situation?

Please keep using your voice. Please keep taking up space. Please keep saying what you believe, think or feel. You are important and you matter.
