your inner voice is always listening

The way you talk to yourself matters more than you think. Your inner voice is always there, shaping how you see yourself, how you respond to challenges, and how you move through the world. It can be your biggest cheerleader or your harshest critic, and over time, it has a huge impact on your mental health.

If your self-talk is constantly negative, telling you that you are not good enough, smart enough, or capable enough, it starts to wear you down. It feeds anxiety, fuels self-doubt, and keeps you stuck in patterns that do not serve you. You begin to believe those thoughts, even when they are not true.

But self-talk is not just something that happens to you and you need to live with it, you can shift it. The first step is awareness. Notice how you speak to yourself when things go wrong. Do you instantly criticise yourself? Do you replay mistakes over and over? Would you ever talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself?

Once you recognise those patterns, you can start to change them. When a negative thought pops up, pause and challenge it. Ask yourself if it is really true. Offer yourself the same kindness you would give to someone else and then reframe your thoughts in a way that feels supportive rather than discouraging.

The more you practice self-compassion, the more your inner voice shifts from being a critic to being a source of support. When that happens, everything in your life starts to feel a little lighter, a little easier, and a whole lot more supportive.
