are you listening to the signs your body is providing?

Newcastle Australian Holistic Counsellor & Wellbeing Coach

Your body is always communicating with you, but a lot of us aren’t actually listening. We push through exhaustion, ignoring the whispers until they turn into full-blown screams. We tell ourselves we’ll rest later, but later never comes. Not until we’re forced to slow down.

Your body will always ask for rest before it demands it. It starts with little signs, subtle cues that something is off. Maybe you’re feeling more tired than usual, even after a full night’s sleep. Your muscles feel heavier, your energy dips, and the things that normally excite you feel painful. Brain fog creeps in, making even the small and usually easy decisions overwhelming. Your patience wears thin, little things irritate you more than usual, and your emotions sit closer to the surface, ready to overflow or explode.

Then there are the physical signs. The headaches, the tension in your shoulders, the tightness in your chest, the way your body holds onto stress without you even realising. Your immune system starts waving red flags with colds, slow healing, random aches and pains that seem to have no cause. Your digestion might be off, your appetite might change, or you might just feel different in a way you can’t quite explain, but you know it’s not ‘normal’.

These are not inconveniences. These are invitations. Your body is asking for more care, more stillness, more gentleness. And if you don’t listen, it will make you listen.

So before you reach for another coffee, before you convince yourself to just push through one more thing, ask yourself… what would happen if I gave myself permission to rest? What would change if I gave myself permission to rest? Who would I become if I were well rested?
